About the Summer Verses Program

The summer memory verse program was developed at ACAC to help students get a head start some learning key verses for the coming quiz year. This system was created to make it easier to track student progress over the summer.

Because we have students with different levels of interest and commitment to quizzing, we divided these verses into three levels. What we call 'Club 20' in just requires students to learn two verses a week and is great for new quizzers, younger quizzers, and those who don't have a lot of time or interest. As quizzers move into their second year, we like to increase the challenge and have them learn three verses a week, which is our 'Club 30'. Finally, for those quizzers who are eager to learn more, we have 'Club 40' which requires students to learn four (or, rarely, 5) verses a week. Students who successfully complete their club goal by the end of the summer receive a prize in September.

The schedule of verses is suggested, but not strictly enforced. We realize that family vacations and other activities can disrupt the learning goals, so there is slack to make up for missed time - so long as it's all complete by the end of the summer, students still get their reward. Also, some students know they are traveling and will sometimes work ahead to get verses down so that when they come back, they are still on track. There is a lot of flexibility with this program and coaches can use it (or not) as they see fit.

If you click on a student's name in the list view, you will see all the verses they have completed (marked with a green check) and if you are a coach, you will see a gray/empty check for the verses still to be done. Coaches can click on the check (green or grey) to toggle it to the other state. All quizzers are visible in the guest view, but once a coach logs into the system, it will restrict them to only quizzers from their church; this makes it easier for coaches to not have filter through students that are from another church. Coaches can add or edit students from their church as needed.
